If ever there was a time to come together with love and support, it is now!
In May 2011, Braylin was diagnosed with SMA (Spinal Muscular Atrophy). This is a neuromuscular disease characterized by progressive muscle weakness and atrophy. This diagnosis is a parent’s worst nightmare for a baby girl that just arrived less than 6 months earlier.
Braylin’s parents are fighters and have been focused around the clock on finding the best care for her. They have sought out specialists on SMA to help them understand how to best care for Braylin as well as begun the process of bringing the equipment needed for her care in their home. The financial impact pales in comparison to the emotional toll on the family however the costs to care for a baby with SMA are astronomical. Just the initial set up for in home equipment is over $20,000 with future costs over $100,000.
To say that everyone feels helpless would be a dramatic understatement.
